A patio cover keeps rain and sun off an outdoor space but leaves the sides open. A patio enclosure goes a step further — it closes in the sides with screens, glass, or vinyl panels, turning the covered area into a true three-season (or year-round) room. We build both, and on most jobs the two are the same conversation: cover the top, then decide how much of the perimeter to close in.
Screen enclosures attach directly to an existing or new patio cover's structural posts and fill the open sides with framed aluminum screen panels. This is the most common enclosure upgrade we install — it keeps out mosquitoes, leaves, and wind-blown debris while preserving airflow and the open feel of an outdoor room.
Glass and vinyl enclosures go a step further for homeowners who want to use the space in cooler months. Vinyl panels are typically removed and stored for summer, while tempered-glass systems can stay in year-round and still slide open on warm days. Both options extend usable outdoor living from early spring through late fall, and with supplemental heat, through winter.

Enclosure pricing is in addition to the patio cover structure itself — most customers cover first, then enclose either at the same time or as a later phase. If you mainly want shade and rain protection with the space staying open to the yard, a patio cover on its own is the right call; if bugs, wind, or extending the usable season matter more, add a screen or glass enclosure.
